Parents

Who They Are

Project Stretch offers parents numerous opportunities to become more involved in their child's education and even to further their own education. Parents can log on to the Stretchmoodle from any computer with internet access and view their child's work. Once parents witness first-hand the possibilities for personal and professional growth that online learning offers, they can be motivated to engage in online learning activities of their own.

Project Stretch sees parents as an integral part of the school community, and we recognize that our success depends in part on their support. Therefore, we strive to build relationships with the parents in our network and to draw on their knowledge and expertise. We seek the input of parents in order to make our curricular interventions more responsive to and reflective of the needs of the community by e-mail/phone contact and by offering presentations and meetings at the school.

Project Stretch parents know that critical reasoning skills and technological literacy are essential competencies which predict the success of our young people in school and at work. We have found that the parents of students in our programs are fiercely committed to maximizing the educational opportunity of their children. They value cutting-edge pedagogical intervention at least as much as parents in more affluent communities. To this extent that opportunity is linked to habits of critical thinking and facility with emerging information technologies, parents can be confident in Project Stretch as a program that creates new opportunities their children as citizens and as scholars in their own right.
